Quota Cares Walk

Quota clubs all around Michigan will be walking on the same day to raise awareness of Healthy Hearing.

Time is closing in on our 3rd Annual Quota Cares Walk. It will be held on Sunday, September 18th at 2:00 pm – Riverside Park. The view is terrific.  A wonderful opportunity to stroll along the beautiful banks of the Grand River, surrounded by friends and family.

Remember, our walk is unique because there are no rules!  You can walk a quarter of a mile, or four miles.  It’s up to you and your group.  So, everyone is welcome and can participate. Click here for a brochure, you can print off as many copies as you need!

This is one of our major fund raisers, so please invite your friends and family to support you and the wonderful work that Quota does in our community. Put on your walkin’ shoes and I will see you on the 18th.

President’s Message July, 2011

Christmas in July

I’ve been thinking about giving.  Isn’t that what we are about as we journey through Quota and ask to be taught the real meaning of sharing?  When we share what we have, we are giving.

We saw some very generous ‘giving’ when District 20 pulled out money for the Cool Cats at the conference in May.  I have been trying in my own way to help these same kids by hiring them to work in my yard.  Two or three of them have been ‘working’ every Saturday and I have found it to be a gratifying, yes, satisfying experience for me.  They are earning money which they desperately want, but what I like about it is that they are also learning.  I feel as though I am not just giving them money, but as I watch them learn how to drive the lawn tractor, dig holes to plant trees, plant seeds and see them germinate then grow into plants, I am hopeful that they are learning for their future.  Not only are they gaining a work ethic, but if any of them wants to work for a landscaping company one day, I feel he (just the boys for now) could do just that.  I must say, it’s a good feeling and fun to watch as they discover new skills.  (Must be the teacher in me–?)

Former President Bill Clinton wrote a book called Giving.  He said he wanted to show that “service can be a powerful agent of change in the world”.  I think we are doing just that. We are hoping to make a difference in the world by doing what we do best.  Quota is not only a fund-raising organization; it is also a sharing organization aiming to make a difference to others in our world as our International President Gwen has so aptly stated.

President Clinton also said that “One of the greatest gifts anyone can give is a useful skill.”  We have more opportunities ahead with a camp on August 6 and another cooking day in October.  Cathy Kaiser, Martha Herman, and Kath Slagal are providing us with their generous leadership and I hope each of us can take advantage of the chance to share skills with hearing impaired youths.  Please watch for details and reminders for these events.  Believe me, you’re ‘gonna’ love it!
